July 7, 1940 – December 24, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Larry due to complications resulting from a stroke on December 16th. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta to parents Ann & Cecil Eigeard they farmed for many years near Raymond Alberta. This is where his love of horses developed as he rode to and from school daily. Next was a move to Edmonton then on to Valleyview, Alberta eventually moving to Winfield, B.C. In 1964 the family moved to Lavington. By then Larry was working in northern Alberta building roads for seismograph exploration.
While home on a break he met his lifelong partner Carol and through their mutual love of horses they married on October 8, 1966, recently celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. Larry then embarked on a career within the logging industry until his retirement at the age of 56. From then on he pursued his passion of fishing. They would camp from May to September, fishing the many remote lakes with forestry campsites accompanied by their cats and dog.
Larry loved nature and animals, and especially the many cats and dogs he gave a forever home to. His other interests included riding a motorcycle for more than 30 years, dirt biking, quads and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed his casino visits to Reno and other destinations with bus tours.
Finally moving to Vernon 4 1/2 years ago was quite an adjustment after having lived on acreages in the Lavington and Lumby area for many years. He enjoyed his small garden, taking care of his flowers, playing crib with his good buddies Greg, Bill and sister Dianne and playing his guitar while singing along.
Larry was a gentle giant who was quiet, kind and thoughtful. Most of all Larry loved his wife Carol (“Lovey”) and son Jordy. Larry is survived by his wife Carol, son Jordy his much loved kitty Bridget, sister Dianne Smithson (Bernie), mother-in-law Jean Young, brother-inlaw Russ Young, 1 niece and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Cecil & Ann Eigeard, brother Doug, sister-in-law Marie, father-in-law Russ Young.
A celebration of life will take place at the Army & Navy Airforce Hall (2500- 46th-Avenue Vernon) at 1 pm on March 17th.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to Pleasant Valley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Vernon & District Animal Care Society or the Okanagan Humane Society.
