Gibson, Laura F.
After a lengthy battle with cancer, Laura peacefully passed away on Sept. 16, 2011 at the North Okanagan Hospice House in Vernon, BC. Born in rural Saskatchewan, Laura spent most of her life in Mississauga, Ontario. Upon retiring in 1999, Laura moved to Ottawa and then Vernon, where she spent her remaining years in BC’s picturesque Okanogan Valley. Known for her daily early morning walks along 30th Avenue, Laura loved Vernon’s temperate weather. She cherished her friends, enjoying their shopping excursions to Kelowna and frequent chats over coffee at McDonald’s. When colder weather set in, Laura took pleasure in curling up with a good book.
Laura is survived by her former spouse and life-long friend Nestor; her dear children Carol and Barry; her only grandchild, Brittany; her brothers Reg, Jerry, Adolph, Stanley, Michael, Robert and Donald; her sisters Minnie and Kay; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles from coast to coast. She was predeceased by her first born son Ted, who died earlier this year from pneumonia; brothers Alex and Paul; and sisters Eva and Pat. Laura will be sadly missed by family and friends. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and to the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
