Laurence (Laurie) Vincent Devitte
December 27, 1912 – May 7, 2006
We are sad to announce that Laurie passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, with family members at his side. Predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen Margaret (nee Warke), Laurie is survived by his second wife, Florence Lorraine, and will be lovingly remembered by his children Frank (Shelia), Brian (Carol), Bunny (Doug) Smith and Robert (Tina); grandchildren Wayne, Richard, William, Charles, Lacey and Brandi; as well as three great grandchildren.
Born in the lower mainland, Laurie grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and retired to the Vernon area. Laurie served his country proudly during the Second World War and was a successful businessman in Calgary prior to his retirement. After retirement he continued with his amateur radio hobby, embraced life, travelled extensively and when home, helped any who asked. Laurie was also an active volunteer with the Falkland Sunday Morners Club helping whenever and wherever they needed him. Laurie was truly a remarkable man whose time spent on this land was too short and he will be truly missed by his family and all those who came to know him.
A Celebration of Laurie’s Life will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., at the Westwold Legion, to remember his zest for life, humour and many accomplishments.
The family would like to thank Dr. A. Burris and Dr. D. Hamilton along with the staff of 6 north and 5 north for all their caring and support during our time of need. The staff there treated Laurie with love, patience and understanding while enjoying his rare sense of humour.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, 311 Columbia Street, Kamloops, BC, V2C 9Z9.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Justin Clark of Personal Alternative Funeral Services (Kamloops) 1-866-664-9646
