Laurent (Larry) Emile Antoine Rivard

We regret to inform you of the passing of Larry Rivard on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. The Mott’s Clamato and Smirnoff Vodka companies are devastated by the news. Larry was born on June 27, 1935 in La Fleche, Saskatchewan. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jan; his children Jeff, Paula (Rick), Tony (Jackie), John, Marc (Angie), Jacqueline (Todd); his brother Joseph (Linda). He was the proud grandfather to 12 and a recent great-grandfather. Larry was a consummate professional and several real estate appraisal companies in the province still carry his name, a testament to that earned respect. He along with his partner, Freddie Cunningham were honoured with fellows from the Appraisal Institute of Canada. Many will remember Larry for his strong business ethics and warm personality, always a pleasure to do business with him. Larry was very involved in his community as a member of Kinsmen, Kalamalka Rotary, and Gyro. He volunteered his services to the City of Vernon Land Corporation and was a contributing member of Trinity United Church. He sat on TK’emlups, Shuswap, Niskonlith, Westbank, Osoyoos and Squamish Indian Band Appeal boards. He was vocal in his displeasure of the introduction of GST and that year had a banner posted in his office window on 30th Avenue reading ‘GST Bah Humbug’. He was dearly loved by his family and friends. He had a relaxed, humorous manner about him that put people at ease. One of his favourite sayings: “The devil made me say it” while boasting that infectious smile of his. He died just as he lived; he made up his own rules, fought hard and paved his own way. He requested six Vancouver Canucks be his pallbearers, so they can let him down one last time. At Larry’s request, there will not be a service but instead a Celebration of Life which will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of Canada at ccfc@ccfc.ca, it would be greatly appreciated. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family’s on-line obituary @ www.MyAlternatives.ca.
