Leonard & Michael Stier

LEONARD ERNEST STIER

February 17, 1963 – December 28, 2008

MICHEAL ERNEST STIER

October 10, 1988 – December 28, 2008

On December 28, 2008, Leonard and his son Micheal

died tragically in an avalanche that also took the

lives of 6 other friends. They were predeceased by

Leonard’s father Donald Stier, grandparents & greatgrandparents

Jack & Lottie Stier and George &

Norma Griffi n.

Father and son will be terribly missed by their wife

and mother, Suzanne Stier, daughter and sister Lana,

mother & grandmother Sylvia Stier (Dave Howe),

parents in law & grandparents Raymond & Pierrette

Pinard, Leonard’s sisters Shirley Stier (Neil Fiss) and

Donna Haak (Bob Foster) with children Kara and

Dustin; aunt & sister-in-law Johanne Brunelle (Doug)

and their children Monique and Scott as well as a

multitude of wonderful friends and neighbors.

Leonard, a mine operations foreman and Micheal, a

heavy-duty mechanic apprentice shared a unique bond

that extended far beyond a father/son relationship.

Together in life, surrounded by family and friends,

they enjoyed nature’s playground; hunting, fi shing,

camping, quadding and sledding. Though their death

has left a void fi lled with an indescribable heartache,

it is also a testament to their lives; the father and son

who shared so much in life, also shared in death.

A Memorial Service celebrating the lives of these two

remarkable men was held at the Church of Jesus

Christ of Latter Day Saints on Friday, January 2nd

as well as at the Community Memorial held at the

Sparwood Arena on Sunday, January 4th.
