Les fought a courageous battle with Hailey Hailey disease for many years but lost the battle in the early hours of June 23rd, 2016. He was born in Vernon to Leo and Rose Valouch on December 19th, 1932. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 60 years, Anne; sons: David, Kelly, Shane (Lyla), and Jeff; one sister, Maureen Leslie (Stuart) of Burnaby; grandchildren: Matthew, Tyler (Nadine), Jennifer, Stephanie, Hollie; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his father, Leo, mother Rose, brother Barry, and nephew Neil Leslie. Les was on outdoors kind of guy. He excelled at fishing, horsehoes, golf (two hole in ones), curling, camping, and boating. He especially enjoyed the many holidays in Mexico and the Bahamas. He also liked to cook (chef style), and sing, especially to Anne. Les worked in the lumber industry for many years, first on the green chain, then as a forklift operator, saw filer and finally as a barker operator. Being an IWA representative for many years was also one of the many jobs he was good at. We will miss his wonderful stories, jokes, sense of humor and his great love for his family. Special thanks to Dr. Pritchett for looking after Les for many years. Thanks also to Drs. Smith, Oswald, and the staff at 2 East of Vernon Jubilee Hospital. No service by request. A gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
