Lillian Fontaine
April 20, 1916 – July 20, 2013
Mom passed away peacefully Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Vernon Hospice. Predeceased by her husband Cliff in September 26, 1961, they can finally now be together again. Left to mourn her passing is her only child Carol Wright of Armstrong; granddaughter, Shan and Doug Macfarlane; and two great-grandsons Chad and Cole.
Lillian was born in Buderheim, Alberta to Andy and Karol Grossman. She was one of eight children, five girls and three boys. Lillian was predeceased by her siblings: Fred, Henry, Bill, Elsie, Violet, and Adeline. She is survived by her one remaining sister, Dolly Cogill of Edmonton, Alberta.
Lillian lived most of her life down in the Vancouver area before moving to the Okanagan in the late 1980’s. She worked for many years at Gold’s Fabrics on South Granville Street where she was manager of the notions department. Lillian always enjoyed gardening and spent many hours outside tending the vegetable or flower gardens. She seemed to be most happy working in the soil and being in the fresh air. Hobbies were something she did throughout her life. Sewing, she was an excelent seamstress, Brazilian embroidery and in more recent years, Pique Assiette (chipped china mosaic) creations. Lil created many beautiful pieces that she either gave as gifts or that she donated to the Armstrong and Spallumcheen Health Care Auxiliary to be sold in the store.
The family would like to thank the North Okanagan Hospice House for their compassion and excellent care they gave Lil in her final days. As per her request, there will be no service. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at
