We regret to announce the passing of Lily McKinnon in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on September 26th, 2009 at the age of 93 years.
Lily is survived by her son Ron of Vernon, B.C.; her granddaughters, Shannon, Danica, Shauna and Tanya; and great-grandson, Conrad; her daughter, Lorna of Williams Lake, B.C.; her grandsons, Eddie and Corey; her granddaughter, Crystal; and great-grandson, Darian; and one sister, Olive. She was preceded in death by her husband Morley in 1984; and two sisters, Doris and Joyce.
Lily was born on December 17th, 1915 in Cochrane, Alberta, the eldest of four girls. In later years she met and married Morley McKinnon. Together they moved to Lumby in 1966 and farmed there until settling down in Vernon in 1984. Lily was a member of the Armed Forces. She loved the outdoors, people, wearing hats and good desserts. Her hobbies included photography, painting, bowling and golfing. Lily golfed for many years at the Spall Golf Club before joining Hillview Golf Club. She was a fixture there, even putting her bag and clubs onto the bus in order to get out for a round of golf, after she no longer drove.
At Lily’s request she was cremated and there will be no Funeral Service held. She will be laid to rest beside Morley in the Legion Section of the Pleasant Valley Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful caregivers over the past three and a half years including the staff at Gentle Waters and her home at the Polson Sunshine Unit. These people made a great difference in Lily’s life. She will be missed.
