It is with great sadness to announce that Lisa Elaine Leir (age 54) passed away May 30th, in her home with family after a long and courageous battle of liver and kidney disease.
The family would like to acknowledge physicians Dr. Raupach, Dr. Chai, Dr. Wiseman and all of the nurses and health care workers who helped with Lisa's treatment and stays in the Vernon and Vancouver hospitals, and Vernon Renal Clinic.
A sincere thank you to Dr. Marquez, Dr. Enns, Dr. Yoshida, Dr. Scudamore, Allie Connel and their teams for their expertise and care throughout Lisa's liver transplant procedure. To the donor and their family, thank you so much for the gift that extended Lisa's life, we cannot express how grateful we are. Also thank you to ALL the very generous blood donors.
Lisa was born in Castlegar B.C. to Ronald and Gail Weir, both predeceased, and was the loving older sister to Michael Weir. Lisa was the classic mothering big sister who was always looking out for her little brother and his friends throughout their childhood years and was always there to lend a kind ear and share a laugh together in adulthood.
Lisa met her husband Bill while they were out on their "favourite horses." Bill was driving his Ford Bronco while Lisa was riding her beloved horse "Shilo" on East Hill with a number of her friends.
They married at O'Keefe Ranch August 20, 1988. The two shared a love of camping, fishing, hiking, and countless adventures.
Lisa was a very kind and thoughtful person, always helping others before herself. Together Bill and Lisa inherited from the Vialas, the Riverside Forest Products "July long weekend family fishing derby" at Noisy Creek which ran for 21 years up until 2010.
Lisa was always the star attraction with the kids and loved spending time with the families at the derby.
Lisa spent time working at Leonard Payne Pipes and Ernie Palfrey's Fruit before joining PRT Forest Nursery where she worked until her health prohibited it.
Lisa loved gardens, plants and cooking, all animals (especially horses,) the family cabin on Okanagan Lake, chatting with her mom (about everything), and Frank Martina's Saturday Classics. However, her pride and joy was always her beloved children Christopher and Brady (and of course their friends) whom she gladly dedicated her time and love at every opportunity.
Lisa leaves behind her loving husband, Bill, sons Christopher and Brady, and brother Michael (Shannon) Weir, as well as nephews Tyson, and Jace, and niece Mya Weir.
A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the VGH Hospital Foundation SOT Clinic-Liver Transplant Program would be appreciated.
Arrangements in care of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Vernon, B.C. 250-542-4333.
