Joe passed away peacefully at the Hospice House in Vernon on Monday, February 2, 2009 with his family by his side.
After being diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) he faced each day as a new day.
Joe was born at the family homestead in Rock Creek, BC.
Joe spent 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces traveling and living all over the world including several UN Peacekeeping Missions. After retiring from the Armed Forces he moved to Enderby to be near his ailing parents. Joe continued to work and went to Edmonton and finally retired from the Alberta Hospital in February 1990.
Joe returned to the Okanagan to be close to his children and grandchildren. Over the years Joe was involved in the Masonic Lodge Spallumcheen No. 13, Royal Canadian Legion and the Enderby Lions Club. Joe spent a lot of time bowling and cherished a lot of close friends over the years.
Joe will be sadly missed by his children John (Marlene) Davies of Enderby, Ken (Joanne) Davies of Williams Lake and Sheri (Brent) Dooks of West Kelowna. Joe treasured his grandchildren, Brett, Bryan, Dexx, Drew and Elizabeth.
He is also survived by his brother John and sister Doreen.
Joe was predeceased by his daughter Betty Ann in 1976 as well as his sisters Thelma and Dorothy and brother Harry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Schubert Centre in Vernon on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 2pm. The family invites everyone to stay after for snacks and refreshments.
Joe really enjoyed the loving and caring staff and volunteers at the Vernon Hospice House. The compassion and care Dad received was unbelievable. In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may make a donation in Joe’s memory to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27th Avenue, Vernon, BC, V1T 1S4.
