September 20, 1947 - March 25, 2023
Today we mourn the passing of our beloved Mother, Grama, Grams and friend into the presence of her Savior Christ Jesus on Saturday, March 25th, 2023.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 2021.
Mourning her is her children Dean (Bobbi), Erica, Wayne (Coral), her grandchildren Tye, Mya (Jas), Kennedy (Griffin), Dayce (Levi), Halle, Ian, Levi, Jordon and Rebecca, her greatest joy, her great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Roland, Sebastien, Oliver and Frankie. Also by her siblings Eric Heglund, Diane Loucks, Paul Heglund, Rebecca Doig and Patrick Heglund.
Lola was born in Maple Creek, SK and grew up on the family farm in Consul, SK. She trained as a lab technician in Regina before meeting her future husband while visiting a friend in Edmonton. Marriage, a move to Vancouver and the arrival of their first child was next but the urban life in Vancouver was never going to work for a farm girl from small town Saskatchewan so onto Vernon, where they resided at the family home on East Vernon Road for the next 51 years.
All three kids moved close by, so close we joked it wasn't a commune, it was the "Knopf-une". What a blessing for the grandkids to grow up with their Grama next door. She always made time for each one and was an anchor to the family. Family was of utmost importance. She taught, mentored, and loved in practical ways that made us all better people.
Game nights, bonfires, volleyball games and family celebrations always brought us closer together. Coffee breaks were celebrated for any and all reasons or just because and were even better when done outside in the sunshine on the lanai!
She was not much for travelling and loved being at home. Her large yard and garden were always a peaceful pleasure for her to putter about in. A small flock of Bantam chickens became a fixture many years ago (Yay! no more earwigs). She loved her neighborhood and was especially appreciative to be able to walk in the orchard with her faithful dog.
She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and behind the scenes in Childrens' Ministries at the Vernon Alliance Church for over 20 years. As well she had a heart for serving widows; helping with driving, cleaning and companionship over the years.
She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful Mom and Grams and we were blessed to have her. She ran the race and finished well; until we meet again with Jesus.
A Graveside Service was held at the Coldstream Cemetery on Monday, April 3rd, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Will Weins officiating.
Funeral arrangements have been made with Bethel Funeral Chapel Ltd., 5605 27th Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8Z5
