Lorraine Georgina Melvin was born on July 5th, 1939 in Toronto, Ontario and died peacefully on January 3rd, 2007 in Ridge Meadows Hospital, Maple Ridge, B.C. from complications due to cancer and kidney failure. She is survived by her mother, Mae Melvin and two sisters; Betty MacDermid and Carolyn Pansegrau, all of Vernon, B.C., her nieces, nephews, aunt, uncle and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, George Melvin and one sister, Joyce Fisher. Lorraine came to Vernon with her family in 1945 where she completed her schooling. She attended UBC where she received her Bachelor of Education. Lorraine was a Teacher in Bella Bella, Kamloops, Vernon and Lumby. She later returned to UBC where she obtained her Master of Education in 1994 and this enabled her to work as a Neuropsychological Clinical Therapist in Vancouver where she remained until her retirement in 2006. While teaching in Bella Bella she made life-long friends that shared her love of English Literature, History, Music,
Theatre and fine dining. Lorraine loved to inspire young people to read and further their education but her work with special needs children inspired her the most. Her special needs great-
nephew, John was a constant source of delight and seeing the great pleasure and benefit he received from Therapeutic
horseback riding led her to ask that in lieu of flowers,
donations in her memory be sent to N.O.T.R.A. (North Okanagan Therapeutic Riding Association), P.O. Box 328, Vernon, B.C. V1T 6M3. Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Lorraine’s Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel On Saturday, January 20th, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor John Franson officiating. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD., 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8Z5 (250) 542-1187.
