Louise “Lou” Marie Sutherland

Louise "Lou" Marie Sutherland

With her loving family by her side, Louise “Lou” Marie Sutherland passed away peacefully on December 18, 2010 at Parkview Place in Enderby BC at 88 years of age. Lou leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Jim of 70 years; her daughter Carol (Allan) Schulte of Enderby; her son Bob (Faye) Sutherland of Nelson BC; her grandchildren Brad (Shanna), Greg (Mitsi), Wanda (Monty), Jim (Janet), Chris (Melanie), and Doug (Alicia); her 11 great-grandchildren; her 2 sisters Judy Eyre of Spokane and Marvel Siebert of Vulcan AB; and her sister-in-law Mae Dangel of Mara BC. Lou was predeceased by her mother Carol and brother Jack. Lou was born on April 23, 1922 in Taber AB. Following her school years, she moved to Lacombe AB to work and it was there at a country dance that she met Jim who would become her devoted husband for 70 years. After their wedding, August 17, 1940, Jim and Lou began their life together working as a married couple on a farm near Lacombe. Jim joined the army and was sent overseas in 1942 just days before the birth of their daughter, Carol. While waiting for the return of her soldier, Lou worked hard to help save money for a down payment on their first farm. When Jim returned home from overseas in 1945, they purchased a farm in Grindrod BC. In 1947, their son, Bob, was born. They continued to live in Grindrod until 1990 when they moved to Enderby. Lou worked alongside Jim on the farm, haying, raising cattle, milking and even logging. She grew a large garden, canning and freezing for the winter. Lou was a country girl who loved to knit, crochet, sew, play cards, square dance, travel and visit with their many friends. She was a 4-H leader for the Grindrod Chic Chicks for 13 years. Lou’s grandchildren, who were so lucky to always live close by, were the “light of her life”. She always made sure they felt equally special and took every opportunity to create special memories for them, whether it was baking together, going on picnics, travelling, camping or just being there for them. She was their “perfect and special” Nana. The family would like to give special thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Parkview Place in Enderby for the care and compassion shown to Nana over the many years she was there. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 23, 2011. The location and time to be announced at a later date.
