1933 - 2016

It is with heartfelt sadness that we say goodbye to our mom, Luella Marlene Buckler on December 12, 2016. Lou died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 83.

Lou is survived by her four daughters who adored her and spent a great deal of time talking and laughing together. Her daughters are Teri (Wayne) in Armstrong, Gwen (Brian) in Armstrong, Kim (Rick) in West Kelowna, and Kirsten (Joe) in Enderby.

Lou is predeceased by her husband Earl who died in 2002 and her only sibling Arnold.

Lou is survived by 10 grandchildren, who she called her “Little Hearts”: Courtney (Dorn) in Chestermere, Craig in Regina, Lindsay (Daryl) in Royston, Mat (Jennifer) in Fort St. John, Jake in Vernon, Logan in Calgary, Mikayla and Jenna in Vancouver and Connor and Drew in Enderby. Lou also had six great grandchildren: Ryker, Vivienne, Kitt, Keltie, Airlie and Jolie.

Lou was born in Calgary on November 11, 1933. She was adopted as an infant by Abe and Anna Penner. The Penners farmed in Alberta and later in BC. Lou married Art Harms and together they had three daughters: Teri, Gwen, and Kim. Lou worked at Sears in Vancouver. When the marriage ended, Lou remarried Earl Buckler, a handsome grain farmer from Saskatchewan. Lou and Earl had one daughter, Kirsten. They spent 13 years farming on the prairies where Lou met many wonderful lifelong friends and new family members. They retired in 1976 and built a beautiful home in Armstrong.

Lou and Earl enjoyed spending time travelling with their various travel trailers and ventured across BC and Yukon, USA and Mexico. Many memorable trips were made with family and friends.

Lou had many interests and pastimes. She volunteered at the Bargain Bin once a week, worked as a respite care workers for the mentally handicapped, volunteered for the UCW and Legion Ladies, and participated in the TOPS group and United Church Bible study. Lou was a generous woman who did what she could to give back to her community. Lou loved having her friends and family stop by anytime for a visit. Lou was a positive influence on her family and will be dearly missed.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, December 19th at 2 p.m. at the Zion United Church, 2315 Pleasant Valley Blvd, Armstrong. Condolences will be passed onto the family through mik1994@telus.net.
