Mabel “Mum” Holland passed away peacefully at Heritage Square on Oct. 3 2006 at the age of 94.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1979, daughter Pat Clark in 1999, grandson Bill Clark in 2004 and two brothers.
Mabel’s early married life was spent on the Holland farm outside of Leduc, Alberta until the early 1940’s when her and Bill moved to Vancouver and started their own mushroom farm and became good friends with Bill Money, the founder of “Money’s Mushrooms”.
Upon Bill’s retirement they bought a small farm in Surrey where she kept numerous animals but had a special fondness for birds and raised peacocks, ducks, chickens and canaries, many from eggs wrapped in towels and incubated in an electric frying pan.
They moved ;to Vernon in the early 1970’s and for the last 7 years she was a resident at Heritage Square.
“Mum” will be fondly remembered by her son-in-law Sonny Clark, grandsons Gary (Jill) Clark and Randy (Cathy) Clark, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great- grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cawkell and the staff at heritage Square for the care and compassion given to Mabel over the years.
Cremation will precede a funeral service of remembrance to held on Friday, October 6th at 7:00 pm. at the Vernon Funeral home with Sean Wong officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home.542-0155.
