Mabel Jean Thiel (nee Reid)

June 7, 1946 - August 11, 2019
Mabel passed away peacefully in the North Okanagan Hospice shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, at the age of 73 years.
Mabel was the oldest of five children born to Edward and Pearl Reid of Renfrew, Ontario.
Mabel was an avid reader and learner. Her quest for knowledge led her to a nursing degree. She graduated from the Women's College Hospital in Toronto, Ontario in 1967. Her desire to care for and help people greatly influenced her desire to go into nursing.
On June 21st, 1975 Mabel married Guenter Thiel. They made their home in Quesnel, B.C. and enjoyed camping and cross-country skiing with their family. In 1988 they moved to Vernon, B.C. and enjoyed many years together. Mabel had a heart for hospitality and opened her home to friends and strangers alike. She also enjoyed sewing and used her talents to make many quilts for family and friends.
The most defining quality in Mabel's life was her desire to draw closer to God. She had a great love for Israel and the Jewish people. Her trust and faith in God brought her peace.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband Guenter on March 9th, 2018. She is survived by her siblings, Beverley (Lloyd) McDermid, Connie (Norm) Roberts, Thomas (Pam) Reid and Bruce (Joanne) Reid. Mabel will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michelle (Garth) Koster and Erika (Sheldon) Grice; her step-children, Norman Thiel and Beverley Thiel and her six grandchildren, Haley, Liam, Brennen and Megan Grice, Elijah and Noah Thiel.
A private family Graveside Service at the Coldstream Cemetery preceded a Celebration Of Mabel's Life which will be held at Vernon Christian Fellowship on Saturday, August 17th, 2019 at 2 pm with Pastor Len Mittelstaedt and Mabel's son-in-law, Garth Koster officiating.
