MADGE MACCOLL

MADGE MACCOLL

Longtime resident of Oyama passed away peacefully at home on June 25. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Doug an RCAF pilot; her brothers Gerald and Bill Tucker and her sister Gertrude Ley, whom she dearly loved. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Marilyn Domokos of Victoria, Bev Wilson (Brian) of Victoria, Brian MacColl (Mae) of Oyama and Nadine MacColl of Victoria; also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Born in Rivers, Manitoba 1923, she moved to Oyama in 1936, where as a young woman she was a talented athlete in tennis and baseball. She met her husband and started their married life stationed at various air force bases across Canada.

They returned to Vernon, BC in 1957, where she thoroughly enjoyed her career working at Eaton’s Catalogue Mail Order and Post Office. She excelled dealing with the public and staff and made lifelong friends of co-workers.

Returning to Oyama in 1967, they built their home and ran a small fruit orchard. Madge was a tireless worker and indomitable spirit and took pride in her family, her garden and home. She loved the outdoors, watching hockey and curling and doing puzzles.

On May 25, 2013, her 90th birthday celebration was held at The Oyama Community Hall, attended by family and friends. The family extends special thanks to all those Eaton’s colleagues and local residents who attended.

A family memorial will be held in September. In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to the charity of your choice.
