Margaret Elizabeth Balcombe
Margaret Elizabeth Balcombe passed away peacefully in Vernon BC on October 24th, 2014 at the age of 83. Margaret was born in Saskatchewan to Crawford and Elsie Snowball. She spent her childhood on the farm before moving with her family to Richmond, BC. She married Norman Balcombe in 1957, raising two boys, Ken and Don, in Vernon, BC. Throughout her life, Margaret approached every day as a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature, enjoy people and enjoy life’s challenges. No challenge was ever too much for her creativity, determination and independence.
She is survived by her children Ken and Don, their spouses Angie and Lisa, and grandchildren Devan, Dalton, Cassandra and Tyler, siblings Vera Shaw, Bob (and Alice) Snowball, and Marilyn Snowball. Margaret is predeceased by her brother David.
Margaret dedicated her professional life to teaching, working in Richmond, Kimberly, Armstrong, and Vernon. Her passion and love for learning inspired countless students. Her kindness and charity toward others was immeasurable. Margaret loved sporting activities. Whether curling, golfing, cross-country skiing, or teaching hundreds of people how to waterski, Margaret took advantage of the wonderful outdoor activities available in our beautiful Okanagan Valley. Her favorite place in the world was her cabin on Okanagan Lake, where she enjoyed sailing, board and card games, and sitting by the campfire with family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 2 pm at the Vernon Christian Fellowship Church, located at 4507 29th street, Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the charity of your choice, as well as perform a random act of kindness, as Margaret would have approved.
