Margaret Florence Pillott

Our sweet wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret Pillott passed away peacefully on January 11, 2006 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 88. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Nick, her daughters Lonnie (Don) Ritchie of Eugene, Oregon and Gloria Pillott of Vernon. Margaret “Baba” will always live on in the hearts of her eight grandchildren, Dawn, Robert, Susan, Lisa, Denise, Sean, Shannon and Taylor and six great grandchildren, Also numerous adopted “grandchildren” through the years. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Mary Stanley of Oregon, Martha Colnett of Calgary, Alberta and John Halisky of Edmonton, Alberta. Her daughter Sonia predeceased her in 1977.

Margaret’s favorite lifetime hobbies were knitting, sewing and quilting. All of her family and most of her many friends have beautiful handmade treasures to remember her by.

Margaret was born on a homestead in Edwand, Alberta. She had 16 brothers and sisters. She married Nick in 1935. They worked very hard all of their lives operating a hotel, coffee shop and beer parlor in B.C. and Alberta. When they operated a hotel in Berwyn, Alberta, her husband became Mayor. Later, they moved to Oregon in 1965 and ran a motel. They retired to B.C. on Vancouver Island in 1975 and have lived in Vernon for the past 25 years. Margaret and Nick have enjoyed living at Carterbury Court for about three years. Margaret was a devoted member of the order of the Eastern Star.

Margaret leaves in her legacy a lifetime of devotion, love, generosity and profound kindness. She will be greatly missed and always loved.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Edmonton, Alberta. Donations may be made to Vernon Jubilee Hospital or charity of choice in memory of Margaret Pillott. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home. (542-0155)
