Margaret Bertha Hilsendeger (nee Kolbe) of Medicine Hat, wife of the late John Hilsendeger, passed away on September 25, 2013, at the age of 84 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Wayne (Rosaline) Hilsendeger, of Edmonton, Carol (Robert) Smith, of Maryland, LaVerne (Kim) Westberg of Arizona and Elaine (Dennis) Beierbach of Medicine Hat; her grandchildren Trevor, Derek, Amy, Corinna, Carmen, Krista, Kevin, Colin, Laura, Jennifer; her great grandchildren Kimura, Juri, Sadie, Jack, Hayden, Logan, Chance, Conner, Morgan and Abby; one sister, Johanna (Raymond) Taylor as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a sister-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilhelmina and Adolph Kolbe; her brothers, Adolf, Albert, Ernest; her sisters, Mary, Elsie, Gertrude and Ella. Margaret was born on June 7, 1929 in Fillmore Saskatchewan. She married John Hilsendeger on October 21, 1946 and they farmed for approximately 10 years in the Fillmore, Riverhurst, and Richmond, Saskatchewan communities. They then moved to Redcliff where they owned and operated the pool hall for a short time prior to moving to Medicine Hat where John started in the construction industry. In 1970, they moved to Vernon BC where Margaret resided for 40 yrs. It was in September of 2010 that Margaret moved back to Medicine Hat where she made her home until the time of her sudden passing. Margaret was very involved in the Royal Purple Lodge both in Vernon and Medicine Hat for over 35 years, as well as the CWL. She was an extremely talented seamstress, loved to cook, curled for many years and was an active reader. Her children were her life and she cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was fortunate to have done extensive traveling to many parts of the world where she enjoyed the local customs and foods. Family and friends gathered for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL (540 South Railway Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta) on Friday, September 27, at 7:30 pm. The funeral mass was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E. Medicine Hat) on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. John Schuster celebrant.
