Margrete Gwendolyn (Gwen) Stevens (nee Lund)

December 6th, 1932 – May 6th, 2008

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called suddenly into her Lord’s care at the age of 75 years.

Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Bert, to whom she was married for 56 years; her children, Diane (Henry) Dyck, Sandy (Mitch) Huyghebaert, Janice (Keith) Rempel and Gord (Alana) Stevens; her grandchildren, Christie, Stephanie (Richard), Wendy (Glenn), Ryan, Laurel (Colin), Haylee (Les), Colin, Laura, Debra, Clara, Brett, Kyle and Troy; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Emily, Reighan, Christopher, Keely, Shaelyn, Brye, Rian, Areah and Sadie Joy. She was preceded in death by her father, Axel Verner Lund; her mother, Margaret Lund Hanson; her step-father, Olaf Hanson and her sister, Bernice.

Gwen was born, raised and educated in Flin Flon, Manitoba and graduated from Hapnot Collegiate. She worked for the City of Flin Flon until her marriage to Bert on July 2nd, 1951. She and Bert remained there, raising their four children and enjoying many happy times with family and friends fishing, picking blueberries and swimming at their cabin at Whitefish Lake. Upon Bert’s retirement in 1986 they decided to head west to the beautiful Okanagan Valley, choosing Vernon to be their new home. Here Gwen spent the next 22 years, busier than ever, making and enjoying new friends and volunteering in the community. She was active in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary, both the Flin Flon and Vernon Writers Guild, Sons of Norway, Sunshine Seniors and enjoyed curling and bowling.

Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Gwen’s Life which will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 15th, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Richard D. Schulz officiating. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Gwen to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1204-30th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1Z5 or the B.C.
