It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Marie Labermeyer announces her passing on February 4, 2014 in Port Moody British Columbia at the age of 89. She was born in Teutschmannsdorf, Czechoslovakia and at age 24 came to Canada with her family where she met her husband Joseph. They successfully farmed in Saskatchewan until she was predeceased by Joseph in 1965. In 1967 Marie and her children moved to Vernon in the sunny Okanagan. Marie worked at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital until she retired. She was a long time parishioner at St. James Catholic Church and proud member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 50 years. She moved to Port Coquitlam in 2010 and enjoyed her family, new friends and church. Her health gradually failed and she passed away peacefully. Marie is survived by her children Anny (Ray), Paula (Chris), and Joe (Sherry) and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie was well-known for her love of baking, crocheting and knitting. Many tummies were filled with her cookies and many feet have been warmed by her hand-knit slippers and socks. Her Catholic service and burial were held at Gardens of Gethsemani in Surrey. Marie is missed, but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
