April 20, 1944 – March 13, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, wife, grandma, sister and friend. She died March 13th with her husband, daughter and son by her side. She was 68 years old. She leaves behind her wonderful husband, Ken, her three children, Michele (Rick), Richard (Carolyn), and Jason (Christa), her grandchildren, Mark, David, Brad, Shaun, Jaden and a granddaughter who will be born in May, and a brother, Glen. Her dog, Kailey, will miss her very much too.
Marilyn grew up in Burnaby and moved to Vernon in 1972 with her young family. She was a wife and mother for a time and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Vernon. In 1980 she got her nursing diploma and went to work as an R.N. at Vernon Jubilee Hospital until she retired in 2004. During that time she got her degree in nursing while working full time and raising three children. She worked in many areas of the hospital and made some wonderful friends.
She enjoyed going to some crazy folk festivals with her friends. It was at a single’s dance that she met and later married her wonderful partner, Ken. They were together 20 wonderful years. Marilyn and Ken really lived life to the fullest. They enjoyed cross country skiing and kayaking on the ocean. They travelled to many, many new and exciting places. They did everything from hot air balloon rides in Turkey to living on a houseboat and travelling through the locks in France. When they weren’t travelling they enjoyed camping and golfing with their friends. They also spent many hours working in their yard. Marilyn also enjoyed taking and teaching bridge lessons and playing bridge with her friends. She had bowling friends and water aerobic friends and work friends and some of those overlapped each other. She especially enjoyed “family functions” when we could all get together and laugh. She also made the best pies around.
Marilyn (mom), we want you to know that you will always be loved and with us and never be forgotten by your family and friends. You are now pain free and able to rest in peace.
With love from Michele, Richard, Jason and your husband Ken, whose lives you have touched so dearly. A special thank you to all her friends who came to see her in the hospital, hospice and at home. The visits meant a great deal to her.
A celebration of life will be held on April 6th, 2013 from 1-4pm at the Kalamalka Country Club, 8305 Westkal Road, Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in memory of Marilyn Cain to the North Okanagan Hospice Society 3506 – 27th Ave., Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4.
