Oct 20, 1937 - Dec 7, 2017
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our beautiful Mom, Granny and Gran-Gran, Marilyn Sofiak.

Marilyn was born and raised in Vernon and lived her whole life here.  Because of her warmth and friendliness, Mom had many friends, both new and lifelong. She was energetic, fun, generous, caring, loving and giving to all she met.

Family was everything to Mom. Nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by her family. She was always involved in whatever her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren did. Mom especially enjoyed Christmas time and her decorations were unsurpassed.

Marilyn was a lifelong sports enthusiast; from excelling in track and field and basketball in high school to chauffeuring her kids to the many different sports we were involved in to cheering on the Blue Jays or Team BC or Canada in Curling.

Mom worked hard her whole life and did many things from raising children and being there for her mother to working at several banks to running a fruit stand and finally finishing her career at the Vantage One Credit Union. She had so many interests and was a social butterfly.

Mom loved playing bridge with her friends, she gardened, canned, she loved watching old movies and competing with Mitch on Wheel of Fortune (she did manage to cheat a little bit). She was the queen of garage sales and considered shopping an avocation. Mom was creative and artistic and especially loved music which was a huge part of her life. She passed that love of music along to all of us.

Marilyn passed away surrounded by her family. She has left behind to cherish her memory: her brother Doug Hein (Lillian); her children: Bonnie Pryce (Frank), Kim Coulter, Nancy Sofiak, Mitch Sofiak, Dean Sofiak (Colleen); seven grandchildren: Jesse Coulter, Jaimie Olson, Kayla Sofiak, Leland Sofiak, Corey Sofiak, Marley Sofiak, and Ben Sofiak; five great grandchildren: Hank, Parker, Matthew, Mila, and Paige (who is on the way); and many extended family members.  She was predeceased by her son, Tom, and William Sofiak.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring when her tulips and irises arrive.

Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the very caring staff of the ICU at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital who made her last days comfortable.

Arrangements have been entrusted to PLEASANT VALLEY DIGNITY FUNERAL HOME, 4303 P.V. Road, Vernon, B.C. V1T 4M4  Phone: (250) 542-4333.
