It is with great sadness at our loss, joy at the love she gave us, and comfort from our many years of memories that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marjorie Holmes (formerly McCardell) at Gateby Care Facility in Vernon on January 30, 2018, aged 91.
Many thanks to the nursing staff for their care during her final days. Marjorie (Mom and Nana) will be deeply missed by her children, Gary (Donna) McCardell and Christine McCardell; by her grandchildren Sandra (Edis), Jason, Ryan (Shawna), and Courtney; by her great-grandchildren, Evan, Daniel, and Sean, Elijah and Tristan, and Rachel and Ashley; by her closest friend, Bev Tilk.
Marjorie is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Grace (Johnston) Holmes, by her siblings, Shirley, Earl and Lucie, and by her partner, Carl Bjarnason.
Special thanks to the Bjarnason family for their years of love and support. Born in 1926 in Coalmont, B.C., Marjorie moved as a young woman to Vancouver where she married Hugh McCardell and began her family. Establishing early on her reputation for impeccable dress and hard work, Marjorie was a full participant in their businesses -- the last, West-Can Auto Supply in Vernon -- and yet spent evenings and weekends looking after home and family as her era demanded.
Marjorie will be remembered for her determination with scissors and magazines to find the next best recipe, and for her love of beautiful shoes.
Hers was a life lived well and fully. A celebration of Marjorie will be held in July. Details to follow.
