MARK RICHARD SMITH
Mark passed away peacefully on Sunday evening,
October 12th at Vernon Hospice House. He will always
be remembered for his great spirit and strength in
dealing with brain cancer for the past two years.
Mark loved his family, his friends, his work, nature, and
the outdoors. He was born in Vancouver, and grew up in
Horseshoe Bay, Saanich, and Victoria. He attended Olds
Agricultural College and earned a diploma in Livestock
Production. Mark came to Armstrong in 1984.
Mark’s work over the years included whale training,
hog farming, snow – making machine maintenance,
and fi nally construction. He began with small projects,
renovations, and residential work. Later he moved on to
larger commercial projects, and fi nally into
superintending massive concrete projects.
Mark will be missed and lovingly remembered by his
wife Ann, children Heather and Ian, parents Hugh and
Frances Smith, brother Stephen Smith (Cathalynn), sister
Karen MacNeill (Michael), brother Paul Smith (JoAnn),
nephews Shaun, Aiden, and Patrick MacNeill, nieces
Nicole and Rachel Smith, and parents-in-law Vic and
Nancy Vickers.
Memorial service for Mark will be held on Saturday,
October 18th at 3 pm at Armstrong Bible Chapel, 2145
Rosedale Avenue. Kelly Grittner offi ciating.
Thank you to Dr. Sherwin and all the staff and volunteers
at Vernon Hospice House who became our second family
during Mark’s long stay there.
