It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Urmetzer in Noric House on Sunday, December 6th, 2015 at the age of 89 years.
Martin is lovingly remembered by his children, Martina (Barry), Peter (Ann), Irmgard (Bernie) and Burkhard (Barb); fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2000; one daughter, Roberta in 1957; and one son, Arno in 2006.
Martin was born on February 25th, 1926 in Duisburg, Germany. Together with his parents, he was the Captain of a ship, transporting goods on the Rhine and Neckar Rivers. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Anna Doris, whom he called Moritz. Together they had six children, one of whom died in Germany at the age of 11 months. In 1968 Martin and Doris decided to take their family to Canada where they settled in Vernon. Martin worked for Capitol Tractors for many years. When he was 60 years of age he moved the family to Yellowknife where he worked for another five years for the School Board as a caretaker. They came back to Vernon after that time there and eventually their children married, had children of their own, and Martin always loved being in the midst of things, enjoying every minute of family life. He loved music, cats and dogs. Martin spent his final couple of years at Noric House where he received wonderful care. He was truly loved by those who knew him and will be greatly missed.
A private Graveside Service was held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015 at 2:00 P.M., followed by a family get-together in Kelowna.
