Martta Hirvonen, aged 96 years, passed away at Enderby on Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Born in Polvijarvi, Finland, on April 18, 1911, Martta married Viekko Hirvonen in 1930 and lived in Sweden. In 1951, in search of a better life, they immigrated with their eight children to Nemegos, Ontario, Canada where they farmed. They went back to Sweden from 1960 to 1964 when they came to BC to be near their sons Leo and Unto. After Viekko passed away, Martta stayed with her children in various places in Canada until moving to Mara in 1994. A few years later she moved with Unto and Mary to Swansea Point where she lived until moving to Parkview Place in 2006. She will be lovingly remembered by sons Raimo of Thunder Bay and Unto (Mary) of Swansea Point; daughter Sirkka (Steve) Myers of Florida, Irene (Gary) Saumur of Perth, Ont, Mary Olenick of Scarboro, Ont., Ingrid (Stewart) Cameron of Mississauga, Ont., and Betty (Steen) Hjort of Ladysmith, BC; grandchildren Raymond, David, Kathy (Gary), Marie (Ray), Anne Marie (Trent), Kai (Heather), Anne (James), Diane, Holly, Andy (Carla), Bob (Miranda), Kerry (LeAnne), Dean (Lisa), Carolyn, Tracy, Tricia, Michael (Faye) and Brandie (Troy); numerous great grandchildren and friends. Predeceased by husband Viekko, son Leo, brother and parents. She enjoyed taking care of her family. A Service of Remembrance will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Mountain View Chapel, Armstrong. Pastor Scott Hemenway officiating.
