Mary Blackburn was born at Kaslo, BC, on November 13, 1913 and died November 7, 2003 at Williams Lake BC, with her loving family by her side, 6 days short of her 90th birthday She moved to Kelowna with her parents at age 4 attending school there and graduated from St. Michael’s Private Girls School at Vernon in 1921. Her employment was as follows, CKOV, BC Vegetable Marketing Board, in Kelowna and then Armstrong, Armstrong Cheese, Legal Secretary to Steve Denroche and then Jurgen Bencke, later Steiner, Carrigan, Mondin and Bates. Another career move took her to Everard Clarke as his secretary at N.O.C.A. and she ended her working life as promotions manager at Silver Star Ski Resort. Mary was founding member of Armstrong Ladies Auxilliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35, founding member of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum and Archives Society. The Paint and Pallette Club held special interest for Mary and she was involved in the local art world for many years. Mary’s love of life and sense of humour will not be forgotten by those who knew her. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, daughters, Penny (Robert) Caley, Kelowna, and Susan (Ken) Schwartz, Williams Lake, BC; grandchildren, Brad, Randy, and Deanna Schwartz; great grandchildren, Tyler, Tyson, Ashley and Adrian. Also survived by sister-in-law Margi Pothecary, niece Lesley (George) Ramsay, all from Langley. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband W.D. Dave Blackburn in 1994. Funeral Service will be held at the St. James Anglican Church, in Armstrong, BC, on Saturday November 15, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. Reverend Corey Rundell officiating. Interment in the family plot of Armstrong – Spallumcheen Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Coates Personal Alternative Funeral Services. 558-0866.
