Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Carlson, passed away on November 3, 2003 at Parkview Place, Enderby, with her family by her side. Mary was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 2, 1909 and with her family, she moved to Armstrong, B.C. in 1927. Mary lived independently in Enderby until the last 5 years when ill health required that she move to a care facility. Mary’s family, church and faith were her source of strength and pleasure. She was a life member of the United Church Women and of Rebekah Lodge #44. Mary treasured her friendships within the community. Surviving to cherish her memory is: her daughter Wendy (Len) Norlin and grandchildren: Evan (Sarah) Norlin, Marena (Don) Glaicar, Dean (Karyn) Norlin, and Allen Norlin, Gordon (Lana) Hassard, Brent Hassard and six great grandchildren: Kelsie and Kallie Glaicar, Jayden Norlin, Earl, Drew and Sara Hassard. She is also survived by her brothers Art (Nettie) Dixon and Earl Dixon and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Hassard, in July 1951, her son, Earl Hassard, in 1977, and her second husband, Ben Carlson, in 1989. She was also predeceased by her brothers Harold Dixon, Jack Dixon and her sisters Grace Oakland and Margaret Saunders. We wish to extend our thanks to the entire staff at Parkview Place who went out of their way to make Mom’s last years comfortable and enjoyable.
