Mary Elizabeth Payne

Mary Elizabeth Payne passed away at Shuswap Lake Hospital on Friday, September 16, 2005, aged 91 years. Mary was born June 6, 1914 at Pudsey, England and immigrated to Canada in 1922 with her family, They settled in Heatherdown, Alberta. She married William F. Payne on December 21, 1934 at Edmonton. They moved to the Prince George area in 1936 with their first born, homesteading at Red Rock where they raised seven children. In 1959 they moved to Armstrong, returning to Prince George in 1969. After retirement they moved to Enderby in 1987 where they have resided since. Mary’s special loves, after her family, were cooking, music, crocheting, animals and growing beautiful flowers. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Anyone who knew her would not forget her laughter and singing. Mary was predeceased by her son Christopher in 1959, granddaughter Colleen in 1963, sister Ethel Payne and brothers Leonard and Dick Pollard. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 70 years, Bill; six children- Bill (Edith) Payne of Prince George, Nancy (Bob) Feniuk of Prince George, Tom (Noreen) Payne of Vernon, Margaret (Nick) Shatzko of Enderby, Sharon of Prince George and Kathleen (Fred) Hogh of Prince George. Also survived by twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at St. Andrew’s United Church, Enderby. Interment at Cliffside Cemetery. Reverend Ken Jones officiating. Following the service, all are welcome to a tea at Enderby Seniors Complex. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to ALS Society of BC, 119-1600 West 6th Avenue, Vancouver, V6J 1R3.
