Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her beloved home.
Mary was born in Success, SK to Andrew and Audru Egeland who had immigrated to Canada from Norway. She was the ninth of ten children and was the last surviving member of the family. Mary's mother passed away when she was 18 months old and was raised by her father and older siblings.
Mary was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She met her husband Jack in elementary school in Bodmin, SK. They were married in Victoria, BC in 1946 after Jack returned from active duty in Europe. Mary was in service with the Canadian Army as well. After some time running the family owned general store in Saskatchewan, they moved to Calgary where they raised their family.
In 1975 they moved to Vernon, BC. Mary had a long career with the Hudson's Bay until retirement. After Jack's death in 2003 Mary moved to Coldstream Meadows. She operated the General Store at The Lodge for a decade enjoying every minute!
She is survived by her children, Elaine (Jack), Arleen (Brian), Ellie (Len) and John as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and extended family members. Her kind, loving and generous nature touched many. She leaves a huge family to carry on in her memory.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gideon Smit, Dr. DeBeer, BC Ambulance service, Southward Medical, Hogarth's Pharmacy, Alternatives Funeral Service, the nurses at Community Care and All Coldstream Meadows Assisted Living and Support Staff.
Memorial Service to follow in the Spring. Donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
