October 18, 1943 - May 10, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce that on May 10, 2024, Maureen, aged 80, became a soul of the world, surrounded by her loving family.

Maureen was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother. Family was the most important thing to Maureen, and she was happiest when we were all together. She is survived by the love of her life Keith, her devoted husband of 58 years, who loved and cared for her so well. She was proud of her three children - Melanie (Dan), Pamela (Dave) and Norman (Jenny) and absolutely adored her 6 grandchildren - Rowan, Levi, Lucy, Eda, Sawyer & Wyatt. Maureen is also survived by her aunt Marguerite Rooney, cousin Marilyn Kennedy, siblings Claire (Lute) Visser and Wayne (Jan) Grant, sister-in-law Beverley Goodall and their children.

Maureen was born October 18, 1943, in Montreal, Quebec to Alvah and Leona Grant. She spent many summers at the Gaspé Coast with cousins and family - a place she held dear in her heart. Maureen and Keith met in 1962 and were married in 1966. After a vacation to the Okanagan in 1968 they went back home, sold everything, moved to Vernon and started their family. Maureen was a teacher and resumed this passion at St. James Catholic School in 1982, where she taught for many years. She was happy being surrounded by the never-ending curiosity of her young students, many of whom remember her years later.

Maureen cherished time with her friends and kept busy with many activities. She loved being with her book club besties, her ukulele troupe and the bridge teams she enjoyed so much. Christian Meditation was close to Maureen's heart and a source of comfort for her, and she shared her commitment with others over the years. There are many others who were touched by the love and kindness of a woman who managed multiple health issues yet remained positive throughout- a real inspiration. Maureen loved you all- "To have a good friend is one of the greatest blessings in life". Mom had many of these blessings.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Picken, and more recently Dr. Bryant for the excellent care they extended to Maureen over the years, along with many other specialists. A special thank you to the doctors, nursing and care teams at VJH 2 E/W who took care of her like she was their own. She was a peaceful warrior throughout her health care challenges.

In keeping with her wishes she was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on June 1, 2024, from 1pm - 3pm in the Fellowship Hall at Knox Presbyterian Church in Vernon.
