Mary was born in Whitehaven, England and immigrated to Canada, with her husband, Wils, in the early 1960’s and settled in Merritt, BC. She worked at Smitty’s Bakery, The Adelphi Hotel, Don Morley Drugs and Sherwood’s Variety Store. After Wils retired, they sold their home and moved to Holiday Park Resort in Winfield. They enjoyed the amenities of the park and also travelling in their campervan, meeting up and doing things with special friends. After Wils’ death, Mary enjoyed many crafts and activities at the park, especially line dancing, and travelling. She loved to talk with all the seniors at the homes where they put on dances up and down the valley. Her homes always had beautiful gardens and she was a good cook and seamstress. In her last years, she enjoyed the company of her very good friend Paul and they enjoyed many bus tours together and taking part in activities at the Schubert Center in Vernon. Mary will be remembered by all her Canadian friends and Godchildren for her beautiful smile, bright blue eyes, her friendliness, gentle teasing, humour, generosity, love of animals and unconditional love for mankind. Her ashes will be placed in the family plot in England. Thank you to Paul and Trish, Dr. Naismith, and the nursing staff at Hospice House for their tender caring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vernon Hospice House, BC Cancer Society, SPCA or other charity of your choice would be appreciated. A Memorial Tea will be held on Saturday, June 14th from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Schubert Centre, 3505 – 30th Avenue, Vernon, BC.
