We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Mary Wheeler, age 87 years, at the Vernon Hospice House after a brave battle with cancer. Mary was born in Rhein, SK on March 21, 1923. She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters as well as her loving husband, Clay. They spent many years together, living in Whitehorse, Edmonton, and finally, Vernon where he was meteorologist before their retirement. They loved traveling in Canada and the USA with their motor home. Mary also loved her gardening, taking great care of neatly planted roses. She also enjoyed baking. She was a generous, giving person to all.
Mary will be sadly missed by her only daughter, Linda Scorey of Vernon, three grandsons: Dean of Vernon; David, Duane and wife Anita, two great grandchildren, Brandon and Breanna, all of Prince George. She is also survived by two sisters, Ann Achtimichuk of Calgary, AB and Doris Pitura of Kelowna, BC plus many relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Linda and family would like donations made in memory of Mary to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27 Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.
Thank you for the kindness shown by all her care workers: Dr. Redelinghuys, Dr. Rolf of Kelowna, paramedics, Vernon ER staff, and above all, the warm hearts of the Vernon Hospice House staff who not only helped Mom but also Linda in a difficult time.
Reverend Bob Thompson will officiate at a service to be held at Pleasant Valley Chapel, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BC at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15. A reception will follow.
