Maryke Verhagen, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at home. Aged 51 years. She will be sadly missed by husband Douglas, daughters Krista and Kelli of Armstong; stepfather David Inskip; brothers Rick (Marian), Ron (Amy), Joe (Shanna), Jerald (Ruth) and all the nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Mel and Lummigje Bouwknecht.
Maryke was born and raised in Abbotsford, she and Doug were married there in 1974. They lived in Mission then moved to Vernon, residing there for four years, until moving to Armstrong twenty-two years ago. Maryke loved children and ran her own Day Care in Armstrong for eight years. Maryke had various jobs over the years, at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Vernon, then in Armstrong at JJ’s Pizza, the Saxon Inn, Price is Right and Canada Post. Maryke was known for the shelter she gave to many birds over the years. She was active in the Armstrong Ladies Club, enjoyed gardening but first and foremost was her love for family. A Celebration of Maryke’s Life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Armstrong Bible Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
