Mattheus Johannes de Langen passed away January 22, 2010 at Noric House, Vernon, B.C. He leaves behind his three daughters and their families; Ronee de Langen (grand-daughter Sheena) of Vernon, Alida (Robert) Chapman (grandchildren Connie, Adam and David) of North Vancouver and Sonja (David) Adams (grandchildren Gavin and Elspeth) of Saint John, New Brunswick. Matt was recently widowed, losing his beloved wife and best friend, Alida only five months ago.
Born to Dutch parents in Indonesia in 1923, Matt moved to Holland as a young man. After the war he earned a science degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1950 he married Alida and the two shared a life together for nearly 60 years.
Matt’s career as an engineer took him from Holland to Venezuela, to Vancouver, BC. In 1972, he began his own consulting business called Electrical Engineering Services Ltd.
Together, Matt and Alida loved to make music, dance, sing in choirs and attend music concerts. Matt earned his pilot license and delighted for many hours in the sky. His great passion was computers, which consumed much of his retirement years.
In 2003 they made Vernon their home. Thank you to all who touched their lives since then. Special thanks from Matt’s family go to the Community of Inglewood, Trinity United Church, the staff and friends at the Vernon Stroke Recovery Branch, Polson Special and Noric House.
A service will take place in the Chapel of Trinity United Church, 3300 Alexis Park Drive, Vernon at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 5th, 2010 with a memorial tea and reception to follow.
