Mavis Sidnick

Mavis Irene Sidnick

on May 31, 2007, peacefully in Petrolia, Ontario at the age of 71.

Born in Kamloops, BC, Mavis graduated high school in Cranbrook where she played in the Girls’ Trumpet Band before returning to Kamloops to attend nursing school. Mavis raised her family in the Vernon area coaching her daughters’ softball teams, leading the Girl Guide Troop and supporting minor hockey. She moved to Nelson to continue her career with Industrial First Aid for the Workers’ Compensation Board, mentoring many in her field, particularly enjoying organizing many First Aid competitions before retiring in 1996. In her retirement she continued her mother’s hobby working with ceramics. She especially enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and caring for her little dog Charlie.

Survived by five children, Grant Sidnick(Audrey) of Cobble Hill, BC, Debbie Deziel (Gilles) of Ottawa, Ontario, Beverly Sidnick (Bob) of Spence’s Bridge, BC, Ron Sidnick (Ken) of Forest, Ontario, and Norma Jean Orr (Pat) of Burton BC., five grandchildren, Tyler, Alan, David, Booker and Hanna, Three sisters, Grace Connell of White Rock BC, Evelyn Dick of Langley BC and Bernice Harding of Nanaimo BC.

Predeceased by her parents Fred and Julia Mackinder of Nanaimo and one brother, Bob Mackinder, of Salmon Arm.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM from the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00AM from the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd. with Rev. Mark Moote officiating. Interment will follow in the Nelson Memorial Park Cemetery.
