In loving memory ~
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of May Pearl Brausse (nee Newton) on Wednesday, December 14th, 2022, at the age of 92.
May was born on October 20th, 1930, on a farm in Hartney, MB. The family moved to another farm in Deleau, MB where she grew up. May was the fifth in line of seven brothers.
In her mid-twenties, she moved to town and worked as a telephone operator for Manitoba Telephone System. She met Albert Brausse and they were married on June 15th, 1957, in Hartney, MB.
May and Albert moved to Estevan, SK, and started their family of four. Later, they moved to Calgary, AB; The Pas, MB; Dryden, ON, and finally settled in Vernon, BC.
May was a consummate homemaker. She prided herself on a well-run home, fresh homemade bread baking in the oven, supper on the table and happy and tidy children. May and Albert's home was the hub of the family. Many delicious meals were enjoyed as she was an amazing cook. May's kitchen table was the place to be!
When her four children were in their teens, she returned to work as a telephone operator at MTS in The Pas, Bell Telephone in Ontario, then at Okanagan Telephone/BC Tel in Vernon and Kelowna.
May enjoyed travelling on bus tours and cruise ships, where she visited destinations such as Reno and St. Lucia. She and Albert travelled together to Hawaii and journeyed on road trips around BC. She loved the casino, gardening/yard work and looking after her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family.
May was predeceased by her parents, Beulah May (nee Hatch) and Frank Henry Newton; her husband, Albert; her son, Kelly; and her brothers: Ken, Russell, Lawrence, Harold and Elmer.
She is survived by her three children: Murray Brausse (Connie) of Maidstone, SK; Brenda Krieger (Gary) of Vernon, BC; Lori Baillie (Don) of Vernon, BC; her two brothers: Bruce Newton and Albert Newton (Shirley); her sister-in-law Nettie Newton; her grandchildren: Kallie Brausse (Ben), Steven Brausse, Jennifer Brausse (Parham), Melissa Brausse (Justin), Adam Crane (Shelby), Amy Baillie (Aidan), and Beck Tomlin; her step-granddaughters: Jadewyn Zingre (Dean), Toni Krieger and Nicole Krieger (Martin); her great-grandson: Kaelen; her step-grandsons: Theodore, Benjamin and Vaylen and many adoring nieces, nephews and friends.
The family sends a sincere thank you to Orchard Valley, her home for seven years. "George" and his team have continued to show their love even while she was in the hospital for the last several months. While in VJH, she had an incredible team who never gave up on this 92-year-old! Thank you Dr. L Kwantes, Dr. J Kwantes, Dr. Poulin and Dr. Mori, the caring nurses, and an extra special gratitude to nurse Keegan.
