Melvin Charles Matheson

1927 – 2009

Melvin Charles Matheson passed away peacefully on May 6, 2009 at Vernon Hospice House at the age of 82 years.

Mel served in the Merchant Marine during WWII, three years with the RCMP in the Edmonton, Vegreville, St. Paul, Alberta area, two years at the Haney Correctional Institute, four and one half years with the Port Moody Police Department, Chief of Police in Edson, Alberta (January 1967), and co-owned (1970) Brookfield Trailer Park in Clearwater, BC.

Mel was predeceased by his loving wife, Katherine, in 1987, and his brother, Robert, in 2006. He is survived by two sons: Randy (Joanne) of Vernon, Reg (Darlene) of Winnipeg, MB, and five grandchildren: Corbin, Reece, Cody (Anneli), Kristopher and Samantha.

The love of Mel’s life was his wife, Kay, whom he married twice. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. Mel loved watching the Canucks, was an avid animal lover, enjoyed fishing, and most recently, enjoyed “Songs of the War Years” with Sally Evans, and driving around town on his scooter.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Charlton and all the nurses who cared for Mel.

At Mel’s request, there will not be a service.

Flowers gratefully declined. Those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Mel may do so to the S.P.C.A., 4800 Haney Road, Vernon, BC, V1H 1P6.
