We are sad to announce the recent passing of Mel Bleaney of Vernon, B.C.  Mel passed away peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on December 12, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Predeceased by his wife, Jean, in February 1997 and brothers, Bill and Don, Mel is survived by his loving family: his brother, Claude of Cranbrook BC; sister-in-law, Diane of Nanoose Bay, B.C.; son, Bob (Jane) of Calgary, Alberta; son, Keith (Janine) and grandchildren: Nicholas and Melissa of Prince George, B.C.; son, Warren (Carla) and grandchildren: Courtney, Michael, and Natalie of Vancouver B.C.; nieces and nephews.

Mel was born in Nelson B.C., spent his childhood in Moose Jaw and Qu'Appelle, SK, before meeting and marrying, Jean, in High River, AB. They raised their family in Edmonton, AB, Prince George, and Ft. St. James, B.C. before moving to Revelstoke and then ultimately retiring in Vernon.  He will be fondly remembered for his success as an entrepreneur and small businessman, his wry sense of humour, and his family support.

Mel's family would like to thank all his friends and caregivers at Orchard Valley, the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Polson Residential Care, and the Gateby Care Center, with special thanks to his dear friend, Iris.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Orchard Valley Retirement Residence, where Mel was a long-term resident on January 6, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 pm.

At his request, Mel will be cremated and interred alongside his wife, Jean, in the columbarium at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 3303 - 32 Ave, Vernon, B.C. V1T2M7.
