October 1, 1933 – December 5, 2011
With sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing in the early morning hours of December 5, 2011, of Merril Cecil Carlson (78), while under the compassionate care of the staff and volunteers of the North Okanagan Hospice Society in Vernon, BC. After a brief battle with cancer, Merril has joined his beloved wife Joan and granddaughter Kiera-Leigh. Merril was surrounded by family and friends in the last days of his life.
Merril was born a mere 10 minutes before his twin brother Merv, on October 1, 1933. Merril married the love of his life, Joan on May 3, 1958 and after a few years together, settled in Armstrong. They raised three children Deb (Darrell) Williams, Len (Bev) Carlson, & Sherri, who all reside in the Armstrong/Vernon area. Merril took delight in playing a significant role in the lives of his Grandchildren Kristina, Kimberly & Kiera Carlson, & Greg & Britney Williams.
Merril enjoyed time with family, friends and fishing. Merril was a joker and the instigator in many a prank, always leaving a smile on the faces of those who knew him. Although the father of his own three children, Merril was considered a second father to many others.
A loving husband, father, brother & friend to so many, Merril will be missed by those he has left behind, and we are grateful that he will now be a comfort to those who he has loved in the past that have gone before him.
Love you Dad!
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask consideration of donations to the North Okanagan Hospice Society (3506 – 27 Avenue, Vernon V1T 1S4).
A Celebration of Life tea for Merril Carlson will be held on
Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the
Odd Fellow’s Hall, 3005 Wood Avenue, Armstrong.
