Michael (Melchoir) Joseph passed away peacefully on April 30, 2007 with his loving wife and daughter by his side. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Theonilla (nee Bachmeier) of 65 years, his 3 daughters Sharon (& Ed Arnold), Gwendalyn (& Dennis Brothen), Marie (& John Hoare), and six sons, Michael (& Beverley), John (& Dee), Greg (& Patsy), Richard (& Kathy), Mark (& Eleanor), Leonard (& Dorothy); 29 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Michael was born on Jan. 3, 1914 in Emmental, Basarabia, Romania. He was the eldest child of Joseph & Clara Miller followed by Rose Wanner, Robert, John, Joe (deceased), Vic, Mary Burns, and Remie. He came to Canada in 1922 at the age of 8 to first settle in Saskatchewan, and then moved to Vancouver in 1935. Being multi-gifted he worked at many trades including farmer, butcher, and machinist. Michael and Theonilla married in 1941 at St. Paul’s, Richmond. He started Miller Cartage & Contracting, which began his prosperous career as an innovative road builder.
Michael was an active choir member and leader at St. Paul & St. Monica’s churches in Richmond. He was an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus – 4th Degree, an Elks member for 10 years, and continues to sponsor the “MJ Miller” Navy League Cadet Corps #78, Delta, Richmond Branch.
In 1980 they moved to White Rock where they were active members of Star of the Sea & Good Shepherd churches. Michael will always be remembered for his love of singing, dancing, and entertaining. At this time the whole family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Dr. Allan Hogg Pavilion at the Peace Arch Hospital along with the caring, dedicated efforts of Dr. Benitez.
Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother & friend who will be deeply missed. Prayer services will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2250-150th St., Surrey on Thursday, May 3 @5:00 pm. Funeral Mass on Friday, May 4 @ 11:00 am at Good Shepherd, followed by a reception at Star of the Sea Hall, 15262 Pacific Ave., White Rock.
