Mike was born in Vancouver and moved to Vernon at a very early age where he completed his grade 1 to 12 schooling. He continued his education at UBC where he received his degree as a Chartered Accountant.

His love of the Okanagan brought him back to Vernon in the late sixties when he joined Cadillac Homes as their Controller. A few years later he and his partner opened their own accounting firm: Monahan Parker and Company. Mike was a very entrepreneurial person and was involved in several other enterprises during this time including the Bib & Tucker Restaurant, Vernon Racquetball Club and Monahan Agency.

Opportunities came up in Victoria and soon Mike was starting a new career in the travel agency business. Twenty one years later he was the owner of seven Uniglobe Pacific Travel Agencies and grew to become one of the largest and most successful travel businesses on Vancouver Island.

Throughout Mike’s life, both his early years growing up in Vernon and later in his life living in Victoria, he was loved by all that knew him. His kindness, easy going style and incredible sense of humour attracted countless friends. Mike loved golf and was very good at it. During his late teens as a member of the Vernon Golf and Country Club, he was a scratch golfer and competed in the BC Junior Open several times. Throughout his life he always kept an enviable handicap.
