Michael Reiter, “Opa” was born on July 18th, 1927 in Velika Greda, Yugoslavia, the eldest of four siblings. After serving in WWII, and then spending time in Austria and England, he sailed to Canada in 1952 for a new start. It was here that he met the love of his life Elfriede, his wife of 61 years, with whom he had three boys; Alan (Maureen), James (Laurie) and Rodney. He was also a very proud Opa to his grandchildren; Meghan (Jordan), Jillian (Curtis), Amanda, Brittany and Corey, as well as his great-grandchildren; Abigail, Jacob and Dawson. Opa will be remembered as an avid golfer at Spallumcheen, proudly sinking a hole-in-one in 1996. He was an exceptional bowler who still played at Lincoln Lanes. Largely though, he will be best remembered for his endless storytelling of “Back in my day”. Opa taught us the definition of hard work, determination and genuine appreciation for the life he earned. Never one to complain, it was his infectious smile that reminded us to keep positive, no matter the situation.
A Celebration of Opa’s Life will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel.
