Mike Marlow Turchinetz
1924 – 2014
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce Mike’s passing on March 1st, 2014 in Vernon, B.C. after a long and courageous battle with debilitating illnesses.
Mike was born in Usherville, Saskatchewan on August 1st, 1924, the seventh in a family of nine children. His parents, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Hazel, his devoted wife of 43 years; his in-laws, Carl and Anne Nordh; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Many others knew and appreciated Mike for his quiet, gentle and unassuming qualities. When able, from childhood on, Mike worked at many things including farming, logging, landscaping, being a hotel porter, security and carpentry. He always loved children and over the years, his love and compassion for animals deepened. While in care, his day was only complete after a visit from a cat or kittens. One of Mike’s last verbalized concerns was, “Do I hear a kitty crying?”
Mike was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1955 and remained steadfast in his beliefs until he fell asleep in death to await the resurrection to life on a paradise earth where pain, suffering and death will be no more. (Revelation 21:4)
At Mike’s request he will be cremated and no memorial service held. As an expression of sympathy, those wishing to do so, may make a donation to the world wide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses, c/o Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, P.O. Box 4100, Georgetown, Ontario L7G 4Y4 or to the Okanagan Humane Society for the care of abandoned and needy animals.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Denis Lavoie for his compassionate care over the past 18 years and also to the staff on Polson North for their concern and excellent care of Mike during his final days.
