Mina Karoline Prouty passed away peacefully at the Armstrong Pleasant Valley Manor on January 1, 2010. Minnie was born at Manyberries, Alberta on September 7, 1914. Minnie will be lovingly remembered by her son Barry (Valerie) of Armstrong; her daughter Sharon Hoffman of Lumby; grandchildren Jacquie (Dave) Richards of Cochrane, Ab;, Sarah (Albert) Blackwell of Armstrong, Jodie (Andy) Reeder of Kaleden and Blaine (Sheila) Hoffman of Lumby; great grandchildren Cody and Cheyann, Erin and Matthew. She is also survived by her sister Florence Brower of Medicine Hat, Ab; sisters-in-law Irene Reierstad of Medicine Hat and Alice Voldeng of Vernon.
Minnie was born into a farming family at Manyberries, Alberta, the eldest of four children. Following her education she was employed at the Manyberries Courtney Store where she met her ranching husband Ernest and they were married in 1939. In 1947 the family moved to Armstrong, settling on the farm on East Rosedale Avenue. Minnie’s family, friends and community were most important to her. She was very active in the Women’s Institute, UCW, Rebekah Lodge and the Horticulture Club. She worked for several years as a secretary for the I.P.E.
Minnie resided at Pleasant Valley Manor for the past ten years were she received loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley Manor Residents Social Fund or a charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 10 at the Zion United Church, Armstrong. Interment to follow at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery. Refreshments will be served following the service at the United Church Hall.
