1922 – 2016

Miron Balych passed away on December 13th, 2016 at the age of 94. Born in western Ukraine, the first of five children, to Michael and Natalie (nee: Pylypchuk) Balych, Miron came to Canada in 1924 to a farm near Vegreville, Alberta. He grew up on a farm near Meadow Lake in northwestern Saskatchewan.

Fascinated by television after WWII, he studied electronics and worked in Ajax and Brantford, Ontario, Swift River, Yukon (aka: Mile 733 on the Alaska Highway) and Regina. In 1987, Miron retired after working in Regina for Saskatchewan Telecommunications for twenty-one years. He then relocated to Vernon to enjoy life in the Okanagan Valley until his demise.

Miron is survived by: his two brothers, Bohdan (Eileen) of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, and Michael (Vera) of Kelowna, British Columbia; and his sister, Anna Yaremchuk of Vernon, British Columbia. Miron was predeceased by his brother, Alex (Pearl) Balych and his brother-in-law, Anatol Yaremchuk.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. A recep-tion will follow in the Tea Room. Arrangements will be made for inurnment of Miron’s small skeletal fragments in the Meadow Lake Cemetery in the same plot where his parents had been laid to rest.
