Monika Held

It is with great sadness that the family of Monika Held announce her peaceful passing in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on January 14th, 2010 at the age of 66 years. She was called Home to be with her Lord after having suffered with complications from diabetes and heart failure for the past two years.

Monika was born on July 3rd, 1943 in Poland, the fifth of seven children born to Alwine & Herman Sass. In 1945 she immigrated to East Germany and then in 1952 came to Canada at the age of nine years. Monika married Heinz Held in 1963 in Vernon and was blessed with four children. She leaves behind her loving husband Heinz; two sons, Glenn (Susan) Held and Greg (Beki) Held of Vernon, B.C.; two daughters, Glenda (Andy) Laser of Calgary, Alberta and Tammy (Bob) Harder of Armstrong, B.C.; nine grandchildren, Nolan Held, Olivia Held, Tyson and Dawson Held, Sydney and Brett Harder, Adam, Caleb and Natalie Laser; two brothers, Arthur Sass and Willi Sass; two sisters, Martha Sass and Erika Berger, all of Vernon, B.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Tierza Witzke; one nephew, Randy Witzke, both of Oyama, B.C.; and one brother-in-law, Mark Berger of Vernon, B.C.

“My life has been full and rewarding. I was loved by my family and grandchildren and have no regrets. When my time comes, do not grieve and mourn for me. You have all made my life worthwhile and I feel I have accomplished my purpose here on earth. I thank you and love you all.”

The Funeral Service will be held at Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Art Lange officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. A loving mother so gentle and kind,

What a wonderful memory she left behind;

Long days, long nights, she bore her pain,

To wait for cure, but all in vain;

Till God Himself knew what was best,

He took her Home and gave her rest.
