We regret to announce the death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital of Muriel Bridget Mildenberger who passed away peacefully on December 29, 2008. Muriel was born to Benedict and Josephine Doherty on October 18, 1923 in Pendleton, Oregon. Muriel became a registered nurse in the early 1940’s. She married Kasper Mildenberger in 1951 and continued to nurse and live in Oregon until the early 1960’s when they moved and bought a farm on Mountainview Road in Armstrong, BC. Kasper and Muriel enjoyed the farm life, raising cattle, gardening, making homemade wine and traveling. During those years Muriel nursed at the Enderby Hospital. In 1980, they sold their farm and retired to Vernon, where they continued to enjoy traveling, fishing, camping and knitting. Muriel was predeceased by Kasper in 2001 and her brother Benedict in 2008. Muriel is survived by numerous cousins and a niece and nephew in California. Prayers for Muriel will be recited at St. James’ Catholic Church in Vernon on Friday, January 9 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James’ Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Martin Peyton, celebrant. A tea will be held in the church basement following interment at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
